O.M.G. again - Ojai, CA

Osteria Monte Grappa is not new to Ojai but it has moved to a new location. It is now in the arcade so it is more accessible to tourists cruising the main drag. I love the old building with hard wood floors and white washed walls. Very pretty.

Kat and I ordered a glass of prosecco to congratulate ourselves for making it through the Zumba class at the Ojai Valley Atheltic Club. Go us!

Let us start out with the best part of this meal... the salads - Kat ordered the Inslata Estiva with butter lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon, red onion, cucumber and feta cheese. She loved every bite!

I, of course, ordered the burrata with avocado, basil and tomatoes. Simple yet so satisfying, they forgot the balsamic but I didn't seem to mind. I didn't even notice until I was done with my plate.

NOW THIS IS WHEN THINGS GO DOWN HILL...

Kat ordered this. What the heck is it? Well, It is described as this:

Fettuccine All’Ojaiana -Fettuccine pasta, Tossed lightly in spiced olive oil, garlic, local green beans, tomatoes, eggplant topped with fresh mozzarella and basil served over an avocado sauce.

Basically it was noodles served over guacamole. There were far too many ingredients on the plate not to have any flavor, it was all a little one note.

Now this is mine. The photo pretty much summed up what it tasted like unfortunately. I ordered the Risotto Special and was not impressed. The arborio rice was tossed with roasted duck, assorted mushrooms, dandelion greens and drizzled with truffle oil. What it tasted like was dry wild rice, with the surprise bite of either gamey duck or woody mushroom. It lacked the care and love a risotto should be presented with.

I hate going to a restaurant that you really want to love but leaving with a sour taste and a smaller check book. It really is the worst thing. Maybe we ordered the wrong entrees but these were the "specials" that they were offering. I have heard you usually can never go wrong if you take their suggestions! Oh well, that is how it goes sometimes. Another chance for O.M.G. is probably in the near future.
