Zoe's Kitchen - Fort Worth, TX

Scott and I wanted a meal off the horse show grounds so we wandered down busy University at around lunch break. We managed to find a parking spot at Zoe's Kitchen. Upon entering you walk up to order and I take a seat. It's Mediterranean-inspired comfort food with customers' dietary concerns in mind - nothing fried with gluten-free and vegetarian options. It was just what my body was craving after all that fast food on the road.

My loving husband decided to go with a Zoe's Classic: Tuna Sandwich. Albacore, tomato, lettuce served on Seven Grain bread. I split a half with him and it was comfort on a slice. I don't make or order tuna sandwiches nearly enough. My mom used to always make them for us. Roasted vegetables were served as a side.

Miss Good Taste decided to go with the Steak Stack: Steak, mozzarella, portobello, caramelized onions, tomato, rosemary oil and feta spread served on sourdough. A hearty sandwich under 520 calories. I am going to return to enjoy this sandwich. It made me feel like I was cheating but it really didn't have too many calories stacked against it.

If you are wanting a healthy fast food meal. Come visit Zoe's. I wish they had them in California! What a treat!

On The Border - Benbrook, TX

We spend most of our time at the Will Rogers Coliseum watching or participating in the cutting. Set after set, run after run, it never gets old to me.

Evening came around on Tuesday and Scott decided On The Border would fit our fancy. We took a seat at the bar, enjoyed Happy Hour as well as the drunken conversation of our neighbors at the bar. Don't you just love that?!

Scott felt like something light and the Grilled Chicken with vegetables and black beans were just that. He said it was perfect and just what he wanted. It is nice to leave satisfied with your order!

I went with this heavy hitting meal because it contained a stuffed deep fried avacado. How much fun is that? Served with a chicken enchilada with cream sauce as well as rice and beans. Holy moly, deliciousness! I ate and ate until my Tommy Hilfiger bootcut's starting to bust. I need to slow my roll!

All in all, On The Border seems like a better Chevy's. I would go here again for the Seafood Enchiladas, I wanted to order those but changed my mind last minute. The avocado sold me!

Flying Fish - Fort Worth, TX

We got settled into the horse show yesterday and finally got an opportunity to explore the eats in Fort Worth. You know how much I love seafood so Scott took me to this special place. It doesn't look like much but I am always game for a dive or two.

It is wholesome and functional. Step up and order your meal, take a number and find a table.

My husband ordered the Grilled Tilapia plate with squash, rice and beans. He ordered it "snappy" which means spicy here. He loved it and said it hit the spot. We love grilled fish!

Melissa Good Taste saw gumbo on the menu and had to order it! Topped with a scoop of rice, plenty of shrimp and sausage - it was spicy and fantastic!

I was feeling sassy and wanted to slurp down some oysters so I ordered a half dozen. Briny and delicious; I slapped on some hot sauce and down the hatch they went!

There was so many more things on the menu that I wanted to try so I will be back before my show is over! Crawfish, calamari, chowder... I will be eating you!

Cracker Barrel - Benbrook, TX

We made it into Fort Worth yesterday around 5:30, put up the horses, checked into our hotel and declared ourselves famished. There was a Cracker Barrel just a few steps away so we wandered inside to get our grub on.

Corn bread and biscuits allows are welcome at our table. I had one of each and decided that the biscuit was the clear winner.

I never can pass up a Roast Beef Open Faced Sandwich. Comfort food on a plate. The gravy wasn't as good as I hoped but it was hot, filling and not eaten in a moving vehicle.

My very tired hubby. He drove the entire way and was such a good sport. He put up with me and my million questions, "Would you rather... What do you like more... What is that over there..." I would like to think I was the best co-pilot ever but I am sure I am slightly annoying. He enjoyed the BLT Salad last night. I should have gotten one too.

Talk at you later bloggies!

Whataburger - Texas

If you have ever been to Texas you know Whataburger. I have been before and have to admit they put out pretty decent fast food. It wasn't until my lunch today that I realized it was really great! My last five meals have been fast food so I am feeling pretty nasty. As we trudge onto Texas we just want easy, quick and simple.

I took a chance and ordered the Patty Melt, it was super! Loaded with grilled onions, smothered in creamy pepper sauce and housed between twin patties of beef and Monterey Jack. This bad boy boosts 1050 calories so I feel like I will have to do a master cleanse as soon as we settle in Fort Worth. Only 231 driving miles to go!

Kentucky Fried Chicken + Taco Bell - AZ

Scott knows a good stop when he sees one! A Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Taco Bell all in one, oh yes! That is my idea of a complete, disgustingly delicious road meal.

I had heard these were delicious so I gave it a try. Very delicious is my conclusion. I would for sure order it again.

Next up an order of Nachos Supreme. Always good.

This combination may make you a little queasy but washed down with a Dr. Pepper kind of made my day! Happy driving...

We plan on breaking up the 1500 mile drive into two days. Lots of iTunes loaded, MacBook charged and 2.5 novels to power through!

Texas, we are coming for you!
 Please treat us nicely.

I am sure there will be plenty of foodie posts for you to enjoy. Cheers!

A - Z: Melissa Good Taste

A is for age: I turn 30 on May 5th! Cinco de Mayo - Mexican and Margaritas in celebration of course!

B is for breakfast today: Nothing. I don't really drink coffee anymore so I just charged into my day without stopping in the kitchen first.
C is for currently craving: Caramel Budino from Artisan in Paso Robles. It is probably the best dessert I have ever had in my life.

D is for dinner tonight: I am not sure yet. I am craving something Italian so maybe spaghetti.
E is for favorite type of exercise: Paddle Surfing, jogging and riding my horses.

F is for an irrational fear: I am claustrophobic so anything that has to do with that gets me really scared.
G is for gross food: I am not a fan of Corned Beef and Cabbage. The smell of it cooking really makes me feel nauseous. Isn't that weird?
H is for hometown: The very historic San Juan Bautista, CA.

I is for something important: Communication and a positive attitude. I have learned that nothing is as important than those two things. So lets put on a smiling face and communicate. I just made that little rhyme up, did you like it?
J is for current favorite jam: I don't think about jam much but strawberry on a well buttered  toast is heavenly.

K is for kids: Scott and I have tons of them! All horses, plus one adorable weiner dog, Willy.
L is for current location: Ojai, CA

M is for the most recent way you spent money: On dry cleaning. You have to have your shirts and jeans looking good. Starchy, starchy!

N is for something you need: I need my family and friends to be happy and healthy! It is the most important thing for me because I love them all so much!
O is for occupation: Domestic goddess and wonderful wife of the very talented Scott Weis, cutting horse trainer.

P is for pet peeve: When things are out of place. I try to be very organized and neat.
Q is for a quote: "I'm so optimistic I'd go after Moby Dick in a row boat and take the tartar sauce with me." - Zig Ziglar

R is for random fact about you: I was accepted into every college I applied to and went to probably the least desirable one to step myself out of my comfort zone.  Go Fresno State Bulldogs!

S is for favorite healthy snack: A handful of roasted nuts really keeps me going!
T is for favorite treat: Does there only have to be one? I love a good risotto, it must be the Swiss in me. It is so comforting!

U is for something that makes you unique: I am the Cowgirl Barbie who blogs about food, it doesn't get much more unique than that. To know me, is to love me!
V is for favorite vegetable: That is a tough one. I love every squash imaginable. But, onions are probably my most favorite because I use them in my everyday cooking. Nothing better than caramelized onions!!

W is for today’s workout: Buzzing around town and the ranch getting errands done before we leave for a 3 week trip to Texas for a horse show.
X is for X-rays you’ve had: Teeth. These chompers are as close to perfect as you can get!

Y is for yesterday’s highlight: Having a great evening with my husband over Mexican food and fine conversation. I love you honey!

Z is for your time zone: Pacific Standard Time.

William Weis - Weiner Dog

The newest member of our crew is William, known as Willy to most. He is a Miniature Dachshund and is the sassiest little guy I have ever met. He weighs in at 3 pounds and 8 weeks old. He took a big airplane ride from Canton, Texas to join us. I am sure he will be featured on this blog quite frequently!

Silly Cowgirl

So remember when I told you I wanted to make some changes in my life? That included cooking more, drinking more water, reading and painting! Well, I can check one of those bad boys off my list! I know it is a little amateur but it was fun. I wanted something cute to go in my laundry room and I think it is just that! Pick up a paint brush, it is a little intimidating at first but it really was neat to complete a project.

Holy Breakfast

Bonnie Marie's gave me good reason to hop out of bed while at the week long cutting in Paso Robles... The Biscuits and Gravy with extra crispy bacon! Holy moly it was delicious!

PCCHA Trainers Dinner - Paso Robles, CA

Every year during the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association Derby the Trainers of the Association host a party for their customers and sponsors. We also celebrate one trainer as the recipent of the Dave McGregor Award. This year these two ladies went above and beyond and created a formal dinner setting for the guest. It looked beautiful, great job Rebecca and Diane!

Dana and I were in charge of tickets and welcoming people into the party. I think we did an outstanding job!

Our lovely table was reserved because Scott won the prestigious award in 2010.

Elite trainers of the PCCHA serving dinner, you do not see this everyday!

My two favorite Kats: Kathy and Katherine.

The delicious dinner made by the one and only, Bonnie Marie's Kitchen. They do such a great job all week in the snack bar as well as the many parties throughout the week.

Here we are! Cheers to Scott for being such a sport.

The very elite group of trainers that are members of the club - All winners of the Dave McGregor Award. They are recognized for their desire to make cutting a better sport with their hard work, sportsmanship and success in the arena. Congratulations to Todd Bimat for winning this prestigious award last night.
